La Traviata

Counter-epidemic measures and constraints they imposed upon our social life, relationships between family members and even intimate partners, critically affected dramaturgical approach to La traviata, produced in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and against all the odds (CNT Rijeka; touring in Croatia). This Traviata was staged as an opera about the actual and acute dramatic situation developed by an illness that outlaws physical contact, detaches our bodies, alienates our minds, and can lead to tragic end in solitude. In the Traviata of our days, the three main characters – Violetta, Alfredo and Germont – were separated by plexiglass barriers that prevented any physical interaction. This Traviata was about the tragedy of distance and isolation.
